Undercurrent - winners
A huge congratulations to everyone that contributed to our inaugural Art Competition 'Undercurrent' and a massive thank you to our sponsors that made the competition a success.
The walls of ArtsCape were filled with many wonderful entries, demonstrating the talent that we have in our local area. We hope that this is the start of many new faces engaging with ArtsCape and give positive prompting to those that are reluctant to come forward and be a part of the lovely artistic community of Wynyard.
The winners were:
'Trace of Me' by Kelly Slater.....for Tasmania Rural Health
'Banksy" by Lindy Bayley.... for ArtsCape
Tulip Fields' by Sharon Platts...for Waratah Wynyard Council
The opening night was packed out with locals awaiting the announcements and the Bloomin' Tulip festival week bought in many visitors to view the works.
As this was ArtsCape's first time experimenting with an art competition of this scale I think we can safely say that the Undercurrent event will become a regular event for our community.
Thankyou to everyone that helped make this competition the success that it was.

A big thank you for your patience as we work out the bugs with organising this competition.
We are hoping to make this a yearly event and have been trialing the right way that works for the community and for our group.
We have been made aware that the online selection process did not work for everyone and we have decided on having a paper version as well.
You now have until the 30th of September to organise your art work. On that day you may bring in your works between 11-1pm to 45 Jackson street Wynyard.
If you have previously paid your fee online you should bring in a screenshot or proof of your payment.
Other times for drop off should be arranged by special appointment.
You may download the image below and bring it in with you when you are entering your artworks on the day or some paper copies will be available for your to fill out on arrival.
From there we will select and hang as many entries as we are able.
We hope that this helps with the confusion and we look forward to seeing your entry for the inaugural Undercurrent emerging artist prize.
We had an excellent turn out for the opening of Birds of the NW of Tasmania exhibition. Held on a Sunday afternoon and proved to be a very popular exhibition subject among the locals.
The exhibition was organised by Mary Kille and featured four talented local photographers: Denis Hulme, Fay Hulme, Michael Hyland, Norbert Quandt.
We had a splendid attendance, all sorts of people, many who hadn’t been in Artscape before, and many who will eventually taking photographs home. It was good to be able to introduce the four shy photographers to a new public, and to many of our wonderful birds.

Di Lewtas - Opening night
On the opening night of Di Lewtas exhibition we had a cracker of a turn out. The building was full to capacity and the atmosphere was warmingly positive.
This was truly testament to the power of Di's community coming around her and supporting her and her beautiful art works.
Di drew the raffle for one of her painting on the night and raised over $1000 for SIDS. Such generosity for a cause that is close to her heart.
Thanks Di fro being brave and letting us help you with your first solo show, you should be very proud.
For anyone else that would like to display their art work at ArtsCape - we would be very happy to help you get it off the ground. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
